Miguel Angel Hernandez, Jr., winner of multiple book awards for thriller, horror, fantasy, and sci-fi fiction, has created a compendium of short stories in these genres.  From the Black Forest of Germany to the slums of London and to the gangs of Seattle, he chills his reader with the macabre in “Twilight Perils: A Collection of Eight Secret Stories." These are all riveting tales, some set during Halloween.

Each ghastly tale leads the reader into another dimension of screaming terror. Meet doctors of cybernetics.  Are their developments for the future betterment of humanity or tech terror? Which will win out?  Werewolves aren’t picky about their meals and won’t share.  Can you hear the crunch crackle of human bones and the slurp of intestines?  The witches can tell all about it.  When virtual reality becomes actual reality, gamers beware.  Expect gruesome details when a detective faces zombies and a sorcerer for a weird, Illegal cybernetic adrenaline rush.

Many of the stories revolve around Halloween with missing neighbors, supernatural beings, and, of course, black cats and witches. A PI investigating a haunted mansion and finding a book of incantations adds to the suspense. A self-proclaimed goth girl meets a Frankenstein/like monster called Legion, while in another story, trolls, dwarfs, and elves are tech savvy. AI monster machines have been developed by Twilight Industries. The world is being taken over by aliens trying to kill humans with built-in self-destruct mechanics that kill it and its host.

Readers think of extreme ghost stories around a cyber campfire. The author’s incredible imagination and illustrations will race the heartbeat of readers who are brave enough to read after midnight.  Expect a sequel to Hernandez’s other full-length thriller, Always Bet on Death.
