How to get a Kindle Reader and thousands of Kindle books for free

I'm a longtime Kindle lover. I have always liked the feel of a physical book, but I’m just too impatient to run to a bookstore to look for the book or waiting a couple days for it to arrive by mail from Amazon. Kindle books were the solution to my impatience.  If the books I wanted were available in a Kindle format I could download it right away. I quickly discovered that there are virtually millions of books in Kindle format and many of them are free. To make it even better for your financial wellbeing, you don’t even have to buy a physical Kindle Reader to have access to them. Amazon offers free Kindle readers that you can downloadAmazon offers free Kindle readers and can install on virtually any device you own. If you have a surface, an IPhone, a Google phone, or any Windows product, you are in luck. With a Kindle App you virtually have your own personal library available to you right on whatever device you load it on. If you are interested, I have listed below numerous websites that have free Kindle books available for you to access with your Kindle App and enjoy at your leisure.

Free Kindle books are many and easy to find. Below are eight sources where you can get them from.

1. Amazon

If you search for “free kindle books” on Amazon, it will provide you with over 200,000 results to choose from.  Some of the free books are only free for a short period of time so grab the ones that interest you as soon as possible or they might revert back to their original price.  When books initially launch, they are often offered for free for promotional purposes.

2. Amazon Prime Membership

This is similar to the Amazon option above, but Amazon Prime members have a couple of additional benefits which include the ability to borrow books, magazines, and more from the Prime Reading catalog and read them on your Fire tablet, Kindle e-reader, or the Kindle reading apps for iOS and Android. Amazon First Reads: Early access for members in the U.S. to download a new book for free every month from the Amazon First Reads picks. A different option for obtaining free Kindle books is the Kindle First program where Prime members get one free pre-release book per month. There's also the Kindle Lending Library, where Prime members can borrow one free book per month.

3. Kindle Unlimited

Kindle Unlimited is another Amazon service that allows you to read as much as you want, choosing from over 1 million titles and thousands of audiobooks. You can freely explore new authors, books, and genres from mysteries and romance to sci-fi and more. You can read on any device. It's available for $9.99 a month and you can cancel anytime.

4. Your Local Library

Most, libraries provide the ability to borrow Kindle books. One word of caution: Libraries usually have limited number of rights to each book and the wait times for them can be lengthy.

5. A friend

Many Kindle books offer the option of allowing you to loan your book to another person. Find other friends who also are addicted to Kindle books and swap books with them.

6. BookLending

For those of you are too shy to ask your friends to swap, there is BookLending website that will try and match your book up with another person who wants to read it. If you are borrowing a book from the BookLending website, you might have to wait for the books you want but if you are not impatient like me, it might be worthwhile to get on the wait list for the desired book. Eventually, you will be able to have access to the book you wanted.

7. Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg website (PG) is a volunteer effort to digitize and archive cultural works, to "encourage the creation and distribution of eBooks" Most of the items in its collection are the full texts of public domain books. They have over 56,000 books to select from.

8. Planet Publish

Much like Project Gutenberg, Planet Publish offers many books that are in the public domain. These books can be downloaded for free. Planet Publish has a great listing of classic literature novels that are available for your enjoyment.

8. GoodReads

GoodReads also has a large number of free Kindle formatted books to select from. Many new authors offer their work to GoodRead visitors to build up their followers. You can often find some great reads there.
