Book Review of :  DEFCON

"DEFCON" is Award-winning author Michele Packard's new installment to the AESOP series. Her genetically engineered protagonist, Matti Baker, is no stranger to danger. She would prefer to spend some quality time at home with her husband and pets, but those plans are derailed when she discovers a dangerous conspiracy with its sights set on ending her life. She has made many enemies, so who is it behind the plot? Is it her adversaries – like the Mafia, Israelis, Russians, or Chinese? Or is it the government behind the plot, or maybe Big Pharma that has it in for her?

Matti and her team embark on a dangerous quest to protect her immediate family and find her brother. If successful, their victory would put an end to Big Pharma's reign of terror by granting immunity from many illnesses--a cure that threatens the pharmaceutical industry's very existence. The heart of this conflict lies in an odd health condition shared by Matti and her long-lost brother which could make countless people immune to many diseases - threatening Big Pharma's financial stability.

Matti's adversary made one big mistake in coming for her family. When the ones Matti cared for were threatened, a mama bear-like strength emerged. A ferocity unlike any before bubbled to the surface as she was determined to protect them from harm no matter what it took. Unstoppable maternal courage and fortitude kept her going in the pursuit of safety for them.

Packard writes a thrilling, fast-paced tale and has created a multi-faceted protagonist. Matti Baker, who loves America, is the grown-up version of one of three genetically engineered individuals. She is a vibrant and charismatic person with a flair for the dramatic. She has demonstrated her proactivity through decisive action when it comes to defending this nation from threats. Her charismatic personality carries over into her leadership style - inspiring followers to rise up and perform their best while keeping an air of tongue-in-cheek humor alive in challenging situations.

Matti's dangerous missions are given an engaging touch of drama and cultural relevance through her references to popular music. It fuels the story with an additional layer of vibrancy and modernity. Matti's life is dominated by the highly charged atmosphere of espionage, yet both she and her team's reality benefit from this infusion of contemporary realism into their endeavors.

DEFCON will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish with its immersive storyline and thrilling suspense. The story captures your attention immediately. You will be instantly invested in the characters and the story itself. DEFCON is an electrifying tale, subjecting you to non-stop suspense and danger. From mysterious car crashes off cliffs to long-range rifle shots aimed to kill her husband, no one is safe - not even Matti's aircraft as it battles for its life in the heavens. DEFCON ensures exciting thrills in every twist of the story!
