Daniel V. Meier, Jr., author of “To Know Good and Evil”, has a career in the aviation industry. He deftly uses his background to enhance his mystery/thriller, Southern Noir novels. Meier immediately grabs the readers attention by creating a scene where a small plane crashes and burns in a hog-farm barn sending the aroma of bacon into the air to compete with the fragrance of hog manure. The roasted pilot is identified as Dr. David Lanmore, chemistry professor at a small college in Scottsville, North Carolina. Frank Adam’s, an air accident investigator who was reared in the small town, is convinced by an old friend to investigate the crash. Local police have declared it an accident but evidence of the professor having discovered a cancer cure and the meddling of a pharmaceutical company suggest foul play, corruption, and coverup. The plot includes death threats, bodies, and alligators in the swamp, and conflicted characters make this novel a fun read. The surprise, unexpected conclusion will leave readers challenging their point of view regarding truth and integrity or what is the best outcome for the future. “To Know Good and Evil” is Book 2 in the Frank Adam Detective Series.
