The Case of Section 950, Seat E-14: A Sam Cloudstone Novella (Sam Cloudstone Chronicles Book 1) by Jimmy  Martin is a fast-moving riveting read from the get-go or in my case a relentless, intriguing and spellbinding audiobook narration by Mike Bender. Martin has created a great literary masterpiece of Pulp Fiction set in the big city of Houston, Texas. His tale of a beautiful sexy damsel in distress, Mellissa Steinhardt, being saved from evil forces by our hero, Sam Cloudstone is so real you can almost smell the cigarette smoke and taste the beer at Devil's Backbone Tavern where the story opens.  Like most Pulp Fiction novels a beautiful dame comes in from nowhere, and that is how Martin plays it also. He has Sam sitting at a bar when a hysteric vixen enters the bar and singles him out to help her get her kidnapped brother back and solve a complicated mystery that could mean her living or dying.

Sam soon discovers that it is not just Mellissa brother he is trying to find but also some hidden object with a secret that he must uncover.  Others are searching for this relic, and that is where the trouble really kicks in.  How do you find something when you don’t even know what it is? Sam Cloudstone accepts the challenge that dooms him to a struggle against major adversaries that are willing to kill to get this mysterious relic. As the search for clues goes on, the relationship between Sam and Mellissa heats up, and Sam finds himself smitten by her.  He discovers that she is not only a beautiful dame but also a cunning partner as they pit themselves against their adversaries.  She also helps nurse Sam back to health after he gets winged in a shootout.

Martin makes the novel a sort of travelogue of Texas as he backdrops the action with memorable locations in H-town and the surrounding area.  If you are a fan of Texas sports teams, you will find Martin’s tribute to the teams a real treat.  Sam Cloudstone is akin to Indiana Jones in his daring and near-death experiences. Just when you think he hasn’t a chance something happens to advert his inevitable demise.

I found the audiobook an enchanting listen. Mike Bender does a superb job of putting a lot of life into the story.  I loved his delivery and will be looking forward to more of his narrations of the adventures of  Sam Cloudstone.

The Case of Section 950, Seat E-14 is a  riveting read right from the get-go!  Martin’s novel is a well honed crafty tome of intrigue and relentless, violently fueled action. You will love the array of well connected evil souls pitted against our hero. His characters come to life in hilarious barbs and quips that provide numerous chuckles. This novel is very well worth your time! Once you get into it, you will hate to have to put it down and return back to the mundane world.

About Jimmy Martin

I was born in the 50's and therefore was a child of the 70's. Born and raised in Houston, I have lived in or around the Houston area all of my life. Like my main character Sam Cloudstone, I am a graduate Mechanical Engineer from Texas A&M University. Having attended there in the late 70's, I experienced an early adulthood much different than kids do today. We had no technology like what exists today, so we were much more dependent on our own insanity for our entertainment. I made many crazy friends, and I am proud to say that I still keep up with most of them. I became an avid reader as soon as there wasn't some professor forcing me to read. It has always been a goal of mine to become a writer. My earliest heroes were the likes of Hunter S. Thompson, Douglas Adams, and Tom Clancy, but over the years I have read everything I could get from Hemingway to Kinky Friedman. I've always liked adventure novels, but I have always been a sucker for a good joke. Many of the characters in my first book, and hopefully subsequent books to come, are inspired by real friends and acquaintances.
