Thompson is insightful of life and living and what it really means. After reading his works you are enlightened to feelings you have--Thompson's poems puts into words your inner self.

Man On a Bench

He pretended to be homeless
sitting in a train station
below the street on a bench
pausing now & then to enter
brief nap-like meditations
coming out each time
more forgetful than before
of who he was,
where he was from,
if he were married,
had kids--
the people in the station
all walked toward somewhere
while the man on the bench
had no place to go--
his forgetfulness prevented him
from feeling lonely
yet his sense of having been
someone else remained
enough to set him free.

When you read it, you will get it.  A book you will keep and read time and time again
