In his book, Touching Gently, A Memoir, Charles Hargrove had the unique ability to welcome the reader to the culture and times living in Southern California in the 1930s. He takes the reader on a journey beginning with his childhood, which included loving parents, horses, boy scouts, a teenage romance, acceptance into the right crowd at school, a job in the family business, his first heartbreak, and a chance at an acting career. Charles Hargrove was born in Redlands, California, in 1928. He currently lives in Pasadena, California, with his wife, Andrea, and their toy French poodle, Sophie. Between then and now he has lived a full life. Professionally, Charles worked most of his career for Bank of America, from which he retired as a Vice President and Regional Trust Officer in Southern California. Following his retirement from the bank, Charles became a successful entrepreneur, forming his own fiduciary business. He served in the Armed Forces and pursued acting on stage and screen. He was on the Board of the Otis Art Institute, on the Investment Committee for Los Angeles Children?s Hospital, and on the Finance Committee for Descanso Gardens. Charles loved golf from the time he was seventeen years old; many years later he became a five handicap player. And at a young age he met, then married, the love of his life. From such plentiful source material, and eagerly encouraged by friends and family, he produced his book, Touching Gently, A Memoir.
