Book Review of :  How Patience Works

how-patience-works.jpg How Patience Works by Janet Ettele is based on the third of Master Shantideva's guide to the Six Perfections-the Perfection of Patience. Troy is a young man trying to find his place in himself and the world around him. He has been taken in by three people who have informally become his advisors. The premise of this book is based on Buddhist-Dharma, but everyone can take some really life changing principles from this book on anger and patience. Troy is at a very formidable time of his life-looking for answers and direction. Grace, Abe and Mrs. Sternau help Troy in his "walk" to find his way. When Troy begins to see things in Maggie's (girlfriend) train of thought and thought process, you know his three mentors are "reaching" him and he is "getting" it. Here are some passages taken from the book that are absolutely for everyone--read, meditate and apply to your life. "My mind will not experience peace If it fosters painful thoughts of hatred. I shall find no joy or happiness; Unable to sleep, I shall feel unsettled. "The practice of patience absolutely will not fail to deliver the more powerful, controlled energy and force to eliminate anger." "Examining the actual result of anger reveals that there is no positive result from anger.' "Remember cause and effect--seeds of anger grow into fields of pain and suffering." Read this book-take from it what the author has intended--no anger, lots of patience and peace. In a world of angry people reacting in angry ways, Janet brings you into a state of conscious awareness of where you need to be to live your life.

About Janet Ettele

ettele-janet.jpg A graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Janet Kathleen Ettele studied music composition. Ettele feels that playing music is like painting pictures with sound, and that the same is true about writing, only with words. She has found that many elements of music composition – theme, phrasing, rhythm, and dynamics – are common elements in writing, and this awareness helps guide her written work. Ettele worked in the entertainment industry until becoming a mother. She lives in Connecticut, where she has raised two sons. She has recorded two CDs, Piano Mandalas and Piano Mandalas—Compassion, which are collections of her meditatively improvised music. How the Root of Kindness Works and How Generosity Works are her first two works of fiction in the How Life Works series, which are books based on The Six Perfections taught in Buddhism. She is now writing the fourth book in the series, which will be published in 2015.
