Almost Mortal by Christopher Leibig is a suspenseful story about the life and cases of a defense attorney-Sam Young. Sam works in the defense attorney's office, but has crossed over and takes on cases that do not come to him through his office. Sam has a very large array of clients--at times there are not enough hours in the day. Almost Mortal takes place in the midst of a serial killer on the loose-Sam becomes entangled in the fray of the case through a nun. Camille contacts Sam on the pretense of getting advice about confessions being made to their mutual friend-Father Andrada. She indicates that maybe the serial killer is confessing to Father Andrada and she wants to be sure that the priest is not implicated.
Up until this time in the book you have been following Sam and the harried life he leads-both within his office and those that he chooses to represent outside the realm of the defender's office. Camille and Sam forge ahead with the info she is willing to give to Sam - and at this same time Camille presents Sam with a journal. Is this the journal of the serial killer? Sam begins reading and is enthralled with the events and people in this journal.
There are lots of people and twists in Almost Mortal that all point to Sam and his solving the murder. All are intertwined with him and play a role in the solving of the case and handling matters after the case is solved.
Leibig has done a masterful job of tying Sam, Camille and the large array of others to the case. You will not put the pieces together until Leibig has you at the last page. Thus, you will sit down with Almost Mortal and not want to put it down. Leibig has a very nice and easy way with his writing that will keep you captivated.

Christopher Leibig is a novelist and criminal defense lawyer who lives and works in Alexandria, Virginia. His 2016 novel, Almost Mortal, won many national awards, including the Next Generation Independent Book Award for "Best Religious Fiction of 2016." The Chanticleer International Book Award, "Grand Prize for Paranormal Fiction" - 2017, and the Pencraft Award for "Best legal Thriller, 2017." His first two published books, Saving Saddam (a 2008 novel about the trial of Saddam Hussein) and Montanamo (a 2010 novel about Guantanamo Bay detainees being housed in a small Montana town's prison) were published by Artnik Books in London. Saving Saddam was re-released in 2014 under its original American title, The Black Rabbit. Chris also has several published short stories - Secret Admirer (The Cynic on-line magazine 2004) Coldcocked (Skyline magazine 2004), Fly (The Cynic on-line magazine 2009), Intervention (Traveller's Playground Press 2014), and Paradise City (Traveller's Playground Press 2014).
